1. Materials guide
What eco-friendly products are made of
Understanding eco-friendly merchandising materials helps you buy better. Each option has strengths and limits. The goal is not to choose the “greenest” material in theory, but the one that fits the campaign, budget and expected useful life.
01
rPET: from plastic waste to durable support
rPET merchandising uses recycled PET, usually from post-consumer bottles and packaging. It is useful when resistance, lightness and availability matter: backpacks, bags, lanyards, pouches or technical textiles.
Its value is not eliminating plastic, but reducing virgin plastic. To avoid greenwashing, check the recycled percentage and certifications such as GRS or RCS.

Bamboo and FSC wood: natural look with traceability
Bamboo corporate gifts work very well for office accessories, notebooks, bottle caps, chargers, speakers and pens. They add a warm, natural and premium look.
For wood, FSC is the key reference: it supports responsible forest management. In demanding CSR campaigns, confirm origin, certification and branding technique. Laser engraving is often an excellent fit.

Organic cotton reduces the use of synthetic pesticides and fertilisers in cultivation. Recycled cotton uses recovered fibres. Both are relevant for custom bags, T-shirts, sweatshirts and tote bags.
For textile projects, GOTS, OEKO-TEX or GRS help separate serious products from generic claims. Fabric quality and branding durability matter as much as material origin.

Cork stands out for its lightness, warm touch and natural appearance. It works well for notebooks, mouse mats, coasters, desk accessories, speakers and small gadgets where the material is part of the design.
Its visual appeal is strong, but not all cork products have the same quality. For B2B orders, check thickness, finish, abrasion resistance and the real branding area.

Wheat straw fibre: less virgin polymer
Wheat straw fibre is usually mixed with polymers to reduce conventional plastic content in pens, mugs, lunch boxes and small accessories. It is useful for high-volume campaigns.
Communicate it accurately: it is not “plastic-free” if it contains polymer. Transparency protects the brand and avoids exaggerated claims.

Not every sustainable choice depends on recycled material. A stainless steel or glass custom bottle can add value when it replaces single-use consumables and is used for a long time.
In these cases, durability leads the decision: a quality reusable product is better than an apparently eco option abandoned after the first event.
